Our Story

Our Story

After being introduced to Parkour by a friend in late 2011, Derrick Siu continued to practice the movement form for a few months, including visiting one of the leading Parkour Schools – Parkour Generations in Bangkok, and connecting with and learning from Parkour Groups around the world in Brisbane, New York and San Francisco. Upon returning to Singapore, he decided to make a stronger commitment to the discipline by setting up regular training sessions with friends and so the Superfly Monkey Dragons* was founded on Wednesday 1st August.

Derrick has since completed his A.D.A.P.T (Art du Deplacement and Parkour Teaching) Level One Parkour Coaching Certification from Parkour Generations. Growing interest in the classes lead to the formation of what is now the Superfly Monkey Dragon Parkour Freerunning Academy & Agency with a growing team of experienced traceurs and dedicated coaches including some of the most skilled traceurs and original Singapore Pioneers.

2013 was a big year for Superfly, as we invited world-renowned practitioner Daniel Ilabaca from the U.K for Jump Singapore, which swiftly turned into Jump Asia as traceurs from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Brunei, Indonesia and the Philippines descended on our little red dot for Asia’s first ever parkour festival. We also joined other traceurs in the community to perform in NDP 2013 – Many Stories, One Singapore to celebrate our nation’s birthday, and travelled to Hong Kong to conduct performances and workshops for Freespace Fest at the invitation of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority.

Coming into 2014, we’re dreaming of bigger and better things! We look forward to the constant growth and progression of our students in the Superfly family and are keen to build a community and have a positive impact on society, to be Être fort pour être utile – Be Strong To Be Useful. We are definitely enjoying the journey!

*Naming credits to Tushar Ismail who came up with the original name – Super Flying Monkey Dragons which was later shortened to Superfly Monkey Dragons.
